For What It’s Worth

There’s something happening here
What it is ain’t exactly clear
There’s a man with a gun over there
Telling me I got to beware

I think it’s time we stop, children, what’s that sound
Everybody look what’s going down

There’s battle lines being drawn
Nobody’s right if everybody’s wrong
Young people speaking their minds,
Getting so much resistance from behind

I think it’s time we stop, hey, what’s that sound
Everybody look what’s going down

What a field-day for the heat
A thousand people in the street
Singing songs and carrying signs
Mostly say, “Hooray for our side!”

It’s time we stop, hey, what’s that sound
Everybody look what’s going down

Paranoia strikes deep
Into your life, it will creep
It starts when you’re always afraid
You step out of line, the man come and take you away

We better stop, hey, what’s that sound
Everybody look what’s going down

Stop, hey, what’s that sound
Everybody look what’s going down
Stop, now, what’s that sound
Everybody look what’s going down
Stop, children, what’s that sound
Everybody look what’s going down

For What It’s Worth” is a song written by Stephen Stills. It was performed by Buffalo Springfield and released as a single in January 1967; it was later added to the re-release of their first album, Buffalo Springfield. The single peaked at number seven on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. In 2004, this song was #63 on Rolling Stone’s list of The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time. The song is currently ranked as the 99th greatest song of all time, as well as the eighth best song of 1967, by Acclaimed Music

Well, for a number of reason, things had ground to a halt on my website – a lot of server problems AND a lots of comment spam on the B2Evolution blogs. I had already decided that I needed to move to a new server – this should be easy and not a problem for the site and the WordPress installation – but it seemed to be a bit of a headache when it came to backing up and moving B2Evolution database. So a few months just drifted by.

I scoured their forums and searched here and there for the ‘easy’ way to move b2evo blogs – and none of them were easy and none of them seemed  to actually work -  this was not helped by the fact that I wanted to maintain existing link structure and permanent links from all 3 of the B2Evo blogs – and that I was running and older 2.46 version of B2Evo, AND on a server that seemed to be almost melting,

Searching for ways to import data from B2Evo into WordPress produced a lot of dated information – but nothing as of  here and now -  anyway to cut a long story short – it was not rocket science – it was actually as easy as pie – once I thought about it !!

In short -

1. Create a database and install latest Word Press.

2. Login in to B2Evolution dashboard – navigate to RSS settings and set the number of item to include all your posts.

3. Copy and paste your rss feed url into a browser checking  to make sure all postings are included and then view the source code.

4. ‘File’ > ‘Save as’ and save as xml file

5. In a new Wordpress installation under tools -select RSS importer -The RSS importer allows you to extract posts from an RSS 2.0 file into your blog to import your posts from a system that is not handled by a custom import tool – select the xml file that you saved in step 4.

4. After a short while  the magic words – All Done – appear together with a listing of the posts  – and a happy dove I was to see that happen !

Rinse and repeat all steps for each B2Evoblog – either as separate blogs and with separate db – or one datebase with unique wp tables.

I was so thrilled to see all the posts successfully imported – I did not really mind that it does not import categories or tags – Bless Wordpress !!

I tested it out on a new WordPress installation on a new server first of all though – before finally pulling the plug and redirecting the DNS setting !

Peace !
